Andrew Oliver is a Portland-native and an accomplished pianist/composer/trumpeter. He is the founder and co-executive director of the Portland Jazz Composers’ Ensemble, a non-profit organization which commissions works by it’s members as well as other local jazz composers and performs as a 12-piece ensemble. The ensemble strives to act as a forum for the development and presentation of works for large ensembles by established and emerging jazz composers, and to engage and enrich community awareness and appreciation of contemporary music. The ensemble will be playing on Thursday, June 20th and will feature: trumpeters Tom Barber and James M. Gregg; saxophonists Lee Elderton, Gary Harris, Mieke Bruggeman-Smith, and Gus Slayton; trombonist Al Torres; french hornist Allan Stromquist; pianist Andrew Oliver; guitarist Dan Duval; bassist Bill Athens; and drummer Ken Ollis.
