Trumpeter and composer Ambrose Akinmusire first wowed jazz fans with his focused 2011 Blue Note Records debut, When the Heart Emerges Glistening. As the winner of both the 2007 Thelonious Monk Competition and the 2007 Carmine Caruso Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition, Akinmusire has performed with such greats like Billy Higgins, Sonny Simmons, Joe Henderson as well as Joshua Redman and Steve Coleman. On his latest release, the imagined savior is far easier to paint, the acclaimed trumpeter broadens the palette of his quintet with the additions of Theo Bleckmann, Becca Stevens, and Charles Altura.
