Mardi Gras @ The Mission Theater

Fat Tuesday, the festival will celebrate Mardi Gras @ The Mission with a PDX flavored roux. The Bridgetown Sextet, led by pianist Andrew Oliver, has been delivering authentic old-time jazz and swing to Portland audiences for over three years.  New Orleans native, Devin Phillips,  and the soulful gospel-soaked vocalist, Marilyn Keller, will join them. They will perform a variety of tunes from the Sextet’s repertoire and some New Orleans classics,  such as “Bourbon Street Parade” and “Down By The Riverside.”  In addition, the group will highlight tunes by the great New Orleans soprano saxophonist Sidney Bechet: one of Phillips’ influences, and a somewhat neglected figure in the early jazz canon.
