Bea Eidsness, a native Oregonian and resident of Gresham for some 60 years,
has been a supporter of jazz in the Portland metro area her entire life. Most
notably, she served as the volunteer coordinator for the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival
for 20+ years overseeing some 200 volunteer staff produce one of the area's
most noteworthy and beloved annual events. In 2000, the volunteers established
the Bea Eidsness Scholarship Fund to honor her service to the festival and to
serve as an endowment fund for furthering jazz education in Oregon.
With the advent of the first annual Portland Jazz Festival in 2004, Bea has established a $1000 scholarship to support a student enrolling in the jazz studies program at Portland State University. The excellent faculty and students who comprise this program are a core component of Portland's jazz community and this scholarship is intended to strengthen and preserve this tradition.
